Aussie guy: Where were you working previously?
Me: I was serving in the military...
Aussie guy: Oh... Is Singapore at war or something?

Second conversation
Another Aussie guy: You have to enroll for the army in Singapore right?
Me: Yeah... 2 years...
Another Aussie guy: Is there some civil war in Singapore?
